Magomed Tashukhadzhiyev, a 15-year-old Chechen teenager, became the youngest Hero of the Russian Federation after sacrificing his life to protect his family.

A Tragic Night

On the night of July 22-23, 2001, a terrorist gang led by Magomed Tsagarayev attacked the Tashukhadzhiyev family home. Magomed's father, Soidi, a police officer, and a police chief, Rasul Khabustyev, were shot and killed.

A Brave Stand

Undeterred, Magomed and his younger brother, Islam, armed themselves with their father's rifle and fought back against the attackers. They managed to kill Tsagarayev and two of his accomplices.

A Fatal Wound

Tragically, Magomed was fatally wounded in the shootout and succumbed to his injuries the next day.
