Maya Popović: A Serbian Legal and Political Luminary

Early Life and Education

Maya Popović graced the world with her presence in 1972, born in Belgrade, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). Her academic journey commenced in 1989 at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Law. She subsequently pursued and successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Novi Sad University Faculty of Law.

Judicial and Legal Career

Equipped with her legal prowess, Popović embarked on a career as a judge. Her legal acumen led her to establish her own law firm in 2000, which she operated until 2012.

Intelligence Service

In 2014, Popović transitioned to the world of intelligence, joining the Security and Information Agency (BIA). She ascended to the position of Special Advisor to the Director of Intelligence, Bratislav Gašić.

Appointment as Justice Minister

Popović's exceptional legal and analytical skills caught the attention of the Serbian government. On October 28, 2020, she was entrusted with the prestigious role of Minister of Justice in Ana Brnabić's second cabinet.
