Malik Obama is known for being the half-brother of the former United States President, Barack Obama. Born in March 1958, Malik is 54 years old and grew up in Nairobi, Kenya. He received his education from the University of Nairobi.

During Barack Obama's presidential campaign, Malik served as his representative in Kenya. In January 2013, Malik announced his candidacy as an independent candidate for the gubernatorial elections in Siaya, a county in western Kenya. Siaya is known for its poverty and ineffective leadership, and Malik promised voters that he would consult with his brother on how to overcome issues related to poverty and administrative management. He firmly believed that if elected, he could bring about significant changes in the county.

The 2007 elections in Kenya were marred by violence, resulting in numerous casualties and leaving many people homeless.
