Manoj Kumar Maharana: Guinness World Record Holder
Indian wonderboy Manoj Kumar Maharana has earned a coveted spot in the Guinness World Records for holding a record-breaking 459 straws in his mouth. Aspiring to etch their names in the annals of world records, many individuals attempt extraordinary feats to achieve their dreams. Among them is 25-year-old Manoj Kumar Maharana from Odisha, India.

New Straw-Holding Record
Maharana shattered the pre-existing record in the category of 'Most Straws Held in Mouth (Hands-Free)', managing to hold 459 straws simultaneously. To qualify as a valid record, the participant had to insert the straws sufficiently deep into the mouth and maintain the position for a minimum of 10 seconds, ensuring that none of the straws fell out. The previous record stood for eight years, held by Simon Elmore, who fit 400 straws into his mouth on the 'Mark 'n' Simon Show' in Germany.

Rules and Assistance
Maharana was prohibited from using his hands to hold the straws in place. However, he was allowed to use rubber bands as a tool to bind the plastic drinking straws together. According to Maharana, his aspiration to be featured in the Guinness World Records ignited at a young age. The 'Guinness World Records' website notes that Maharana was inspired to pursue his record-breaking ambition upon hearing about Simon Elmore's feat and set his mind on surpassing it.

Straw-Holding with Hands
In a related record category, 'Most Straws Held in Mouth (Hands-Free)', participants are permitted to use their hands to secure the straws in their mouths. As expected, this variation allows for an increase in the number of straws held simultaneously. The record for holding the most straws with hands is 496, achieved by Guinness Rishi. Guinness Rishi is the alias of Har Parkash, an elderly man from India who showcased his impressive oral capacity on the show 'Ab India Todega' in Mumbai in 2016. Notably, Rishi had no teeth, which facilitated his remarkable straw-holding ability.
