Biography of Manteo Mitchell

Manteo Mitchell is an American track and field athlete specializing in the 200 and 400 meters. He was born on July 6, 1987, in Shelby, North Carolina. Standing at 185 cm tall and weighing 79 kg, Mitchell trains under coach Danny Williamson.

Early Life and Education

Mitchell received a sports scholarship from Western Carolina University, where he broke several school records. He competed in the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship three times in four years.

Achievements

Mitchell's personal records include 21.13 seconds for the indoor 200 meters, 46.17 seconds for the indoor 400 meters, 20.43 seconds for the outdoor 200 meters, and 44.96 seconds for the outdoor 400 meters.

At the 2012 United States Olympic Trials, Mitchell finished fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 44.96 seconds, earning him a spot on the US Olympic team. He was selected to be part of the 4x400 meters relay team for the London Olympics.

During the London Olympics in 2012, Mitchell ran the first leg of the 4x400 meters relay in the preliminary round, finishing his leg in 46.1 seconds. Despite his best efforts, it was later revealed that Mitchell had broken his left fibula at the 200-meter mark. Despite the injury, the American team advanced to the final and went on to win the silver medal.
