Born into a Tatar family in the Uzbek SSR in 1961, Marat Kabaev embarked on a remarkable journey as both a football player and a prominent figure in Muslim entrepreneurship.
Football Career
Early PromiseKabaev's passion for football led him to join the youth team of Trudovye Rezervy (1976-1979). In 1979, he made his professional debut with Termez's Avtomobilist before being scouted by Uzbekistan's legendary club, Pakhtakor Tashkent in 1980.
International Recognition
Kabaev's exceptional skills earned him a place on the USSR youth team that competed in the renowned Toulon Tournament in France (1981). He also represented the USSR Olympic team in 1983.
Club Career Highlights
With Pakhtakor, Kabaev became a key player, excelling as an attacking midfielder. He scored his first goal for the club in 1980 and became their top scorer in 1987. In 1989, he accepted an offer to join the Ukrainian side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, but injuries hampered his time there.
International Success
After returning to Pakhtakor, Kabaev played a pivotal role in the team's promotion to the Soviet Union's top division in 1989. He later moved to Israel (1990), Kazakhstan (1991-1998), and Uzbekistan (1995, 1998), where he continued to make contributions as a skilled midfielder.
Coaching Career
Nurturing Young TalentUpon retiring from playing, Kabaev pursued a coaching career. He served as a trainer at the Republican School of Higher Sports Mastery in Tashkent (2000-2004, 2005-2008) and as senior coach of FC Traktor Tashkent (2004-2005).
Leading Youth Teams to Success
As head coach of Uzbekistan's U-18 youth team (2009-2011), Kabaev led the squad to victory at the Granatkin Memorial Tournament in 2010. He also guided Kyzylkum Zarafshan to the top of the Uzbekistan Super League standings in 2011.
Scouting and Development
From 2011 to 2012, Kabaev served as head of scouting for FC Pakhtakor before moving to FC Rubin Kazan as a senior coach-scout (2012-present).
Muslim Entrepreneurship
Advancing Islamic BusinessIn 2016, Kabaev founded the International Association of Islamic Business (MAIB). As its president, he has forged partnerships with global organizations like the Islamic Development Bank.
Promoting Muslim Entrepreneurs
Kabaev has dedicated himself to supporting and promoting Muslim entrepreneurs through his association with APMRF (2014-2016). He has organized large-scale events to foster collaboration and economic growth within the Muslim community.
Family and Personal Life
Kabaev is divorced and has two daughters, Alina and Leysan. Alina is a prominent Russian gymnast who won an Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games.
