Gicquel made a significant breakthrough on November 6, 2006, when he reached his first ATP tour final in Lyon, where he lost to fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet. This propelled him into the top 50.
Continued Success
On April 30, 2007, Gicquel reached the top 40 after reaching the semifinals in Casablanca. He notably defeated Tommy Robredo in the first round of the 2007 Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon. Despite continuing to play and defeat Becker, he suffered intense pain and nausea throughout the night. This injury ultimately forced him to withdraw from the tournament and miss a scheduled match against Jarkko Nieminen.
