A Legendary Broadway Star: Marc Kudisch

Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Florence and Raymond Kudisch, Marc Kudisch grew up in Plantation, Florida. His Jewish heritage played a significant role in shaping his identity.

Journey to the Stage

Kudisch initially pursued political science at Florida Atlantic University before transitioning to theater. Upon graduating, he moved to New York City and landed a role as Conrad Birdie in the national tour of "Bye Bye Birdie," produced by Barry Weissler. He later starred in the television adaptation alongside Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams.

Broadway Brilliance

Kudisch's illustrious Broadway career includes notable roles in:
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (Baron Bomburst)
"Assassins" (Proprietor)
"Thoroughly Modern Millie" (Trevor Graydon)
"Bells Are Ringing" (Jeff Moss)
"The Wild Party" (Jackie)
"The Scarlet Pimpernel" (Chauvelin)
"High Society" (George Kittredge)

He received Tony Award nominations for his performances in "9 to 5" (2009), "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (2005), and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (2002), as well as Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards.

Redefining Villainy

In the Roundabout Theater Company's revival of "The Apple Tree," Kudisch took on the role of the devilish Schmendrick opposite his former fiancée, Kristin Chenoweth.

"9 to 5": A Musical Triumph

Joining Allison Janney, Megan Hilty, and Stephanie J. Block, Kudisch starred in the new musical "9 to 5," based on the iconic film. The production marked a collaboration with Dolly Parton, who composed the music and lyrics. Kudisch portrayed the sexist and narcissistic boss, Franklin Hart, Jr., originally played by Dabney Coleman. The show closed in 2009 after a successful run.

Versatile Virtuoso

Kudisch showcased his comedic chops with the improvisation comedy troupe Noo Yawk Tawk. He also appeared in "The Men's Room," "I Watch the Shows I Want to See," and the Lucille Lortel-nominated "Glorious!" Off-Broadway.

Personal Pursuits

Kudisch transitioned to baritone in the early 1990s. He met Kristin Chenoweth in New York City, and they were engaged from 1998 to 2001. In 2003, he began a relationship with Broadway dancer and choreographer Shannon Lewis, whom he married in 2011. The couple collaborated on a 2016 production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
