Marcel Fernandes: The Brazilian Teenager Who Set the Unofficial World Record for Texting Speed

Marcel Fernandes

Marcel Fernandes, a Brazilian teenager, has recently set the unofficial world record for texting speed. Using a Samsung Galaxy S5 and the popular 'Fleksy Keyboard' app, Marcel trained himself to type at lightning speed. While many adults struggle with typing on small screens, teenagers like Marcel find it comfortable and even prefer it to using computers or laptops. Despite the fact that many teenagers can type at an average computer typing speed, Marcel has left them far behind, typing a 25-word message in just 18.19 seconds at a competition in New York.

Early Life and Training

Marcel Fernandes was born in Brazil in the 1990s. He admits that he never specifically trained for texting speed. His typing speed started to increase naturally when he accidentally broke his home computer and had to rely on his mobile phone for work and school. Over the course of several months, he experimented with different keyboard apps for the Android operating system until he settled on the innovative 'Fleksy Keyboard'. This keyboard, designed specifically for fast texting, has a simplified design and offers special gesture systems that greatly simplify the typing process.

The Record-Breaking Moment

At the New York competition, Marcel not only achieved the best time among the other participants but also broke his own record. His message read: 'The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.' Marcel's message took just over 18 seconds to type, meaning that he types each word in less than a second. He admits that in everyday life, he types slower as he has to think about the content and punctuation marks.

The Future of Texting Competitions

Shortly after the competition, the developers of 'Fleksy Keyboard' announced the start of an international contest. Thanks to a special feature, any user of the app can challenge Marcel's record, with the winner receiving a valuable prize and the title of world champion.
