Biography of Marchella Albani
Marchella Albani was an Italian silent film actress who rose to prominence in the years 1927-1929. During this period, she appeared in seventeen films, working not only in Germany but also in France, Austria, and Italy. One of her most memorable works from this period was in the film "Shahrazad" (1928) directed by Russian emigre Alexander Volkov, where Marchella starred alongside Dita Parlo, Alexander Vertinsky, and Russian actor Dmitriev.
Early Life and Career
Marchella Albani was born on December 7, 1901, in Rome. After completing school, she entered into a romantic relationship with Roman aristocrat and film director Guido Parisi. Thanks to this connection, she made her screen debut in 1919 in the film "Embrace of Death." In the early 1920s, Parisi directed many films featuring Marchella, and she appeared in sixteen of his movies. The most successful among them were "Storm," "Daughter of the Waves," and "Love on the Run" (all released in 1921). In 1923, Marchella and Parisi relocated to Berlin, where the young actress continued to star in leading roles and was well-received by audiences.
Career Peak and Decline
After parting ways with Parisi in 1926, Marchella was cast by well-known directors of the time such as Friedrich Zelnik, William Dieterle, and Joe May. Her career reached its peak in the years 1927-1929, during which she appeared in seventeen films, working not only in Germany but also in France, Austria, and Italy. One of her most memorable works from this period was in the film "Shahrazad" (1928) directed by Russian emigre Alexander Volkov, where Marchella starred alongside Dita Parlo, Alexander Vertinsky, and Russian actor Dmitriev.
With the advent of sound cinema, Marchella's career gradually declined. She found a new passion in literature and went on to write several novels. One of her novels, titled "City of Love," was adapted into a film in 1934 by her husband, director Mario Franchini, with Marchella playing the lead role. In 1936, she retired from the film industry after her final appearance in the German Western film "Emperor of California" and settled on the Ligurian coast.
