Biography of David Cassidy
David Cassidy, born David Bruce Cassidy, was an American actor, singer, and songwriter. He was born in 1950 in New York City to famous parents, actor Jack Cassidy and actress Evelyn Ward. His father had Irish and German ancestry, while his mother came from a colonial family, with ancestors who were the founders of Newark, New Jersey.

As a child, David spent a lot of time with his grandparents as his parents were constantly on tour. In 1956, he unexpectedly learned from neighborhood children that his parents had been divorced for two years without his knowledge. Later, his parents admitted that they didn't want to upset him with the news. In the same year, his father remarried Hollywood actress Shirley Jones, and David gained three half-brothers, Shaun, Patrick, and Ryan.

Following in his parents' footsteps, David decided to pursue a career in acting. His debut came in January 1969 in the Broadway musical "The Fig Leaves Are Falling." Although the show was a flop and closed after four performances, David caught the attention of industry professionals. In the same year, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career.

David's early acting work included appearances in television shows such as "Bonanza," "Ironside," and "Adam-12." In 1970, he landed the role of Keith Partridge in the popular series "The Partridge Family," which launched his career to new heights. Interestingly, Shirley Jones, who played his on-screen mother, became his stepmother in real life.

During his time on "The Partridge Family," David decided to explore his musical talents. He had a beautiful voice and natural musicality, and soon he became known not only as a singing actor but also as a solo musician. In 1971, he released his single "I Think I Love You," which sold over a million copies. In 1972, his album "Cherish" reached number 15 on the American charts and number two on the British charts. That same year, he released another album titled "Rock Me Baby," which also charted.
In addition to his acting and music career, David continued to appear in television series while balancing studio recordings and concerts. By the mid-1970s, he had become a teenage idol and worked tirelessly to produce new material. He released albums such as "The Higher They Climb" in 1975, and in 1976, he released two official albums, "Home Is Where the Heart Is" and "Getting It In The Street," along with several singles.
In 1978, David received an Emmy nomination for his role in an episode titled "A Chance To Live" from the popular series "Police Story." The episode later became the basis for his own show, "David Cassidy: Man Under Cover," but it was short-lived and canceled after one season. Throughout his career, David appeared in around thirty television series, with "The Partridge Family" being his most significant success.
In the late 1970s and 1980s, David did not release a significant amount of new music. He attempted to transition away from his teen idol image and become more "serious," which proved challenging. However, in 1985, he released the album "Romance," which reached number 20 on the British chart.
David's discography consists of over 20 official albums, numerous singles, and music from "The Partridge Family."
In terms of his personal life, David married actress Kay Lenz in 1977, with whom he had a son named Patrick Butler before divorcing in 1982. He then married wealthy South African athlete Meryl Tanz in 1984, but they divorced in 1988. In November 1986, he had a daughter named Katherine Evelyn Cassidy with model Sherry Williams, who also became an actress. In March 1991, David married Sue Shifrin, and they had a son named Beau Devin Cassidy earlier that year. Beau later became a musician.
Currently, David resides in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he breeds horses. He is known for his support of the Democratic Party. In 2007, he published his memoir titled "Could It Be Forever? My Story." In 2011, David participated in the popular show "Celebrity Apprentice."
