Víctor Emilio Domínguez, the Argentine Boxing Champion
Early Career and Professional DebutVíctor Emilio Domínguez, an Argentine professional boxer, made his debut in the heavyweight division in October 1991. In 1993, he claimed the Argentine cruiserweight title.
WBC Cruiserweight Championship Contender
Domínguez's first title shot came on December 3, 1993, against WBC cruiserweight champion Anaclet Wamba. Despite a close contest, Wamba retained the belt by majority decision, handing Domínguez his first professional loss.
After Wamba's retirement, Domínguez became WBC interim cruiserweight champion in July 1995. He successfully defended his title against Sergey Kobozev in October 1995.
WBC Cruiserweight Champion
In 1996, Domínguez defeated Patrice Aouissi to capture the full WBC cruiserweight championship. He defended his crown twice before succumbing to Cuban boxer Juan Carlos Gómez in February 1998. Domínguez attempted a rematch a year later but suffered another loss on points.
Move to Heavyweight
Domínguez moved up to heavyweight in 1999, where he defeated George Arias in 2000 and Joe Gomez in 2001. He returned to cruiserweight briefly in 2001 to challenge Johnny Nelson for the championship.
South American Heavyweight Success
In 2002, Domínguez won the South American heavyweight title against Fabio-Eduardo Moll. However, he faced setbacks in 2004, losing to Nikolai Valuev and Cengiz Koch.
Return to Cruiserweight and Retirement
Domínguez rematched Moll in 2005 and emerged victorious once more. In 2006, he dropped back down to cruiserweight for a title fight against Enzo Maccarinelli, but suffered a knockout defeat.
Following this loss, Domínguez retired from boxing. However, he made a comeback in 2013.
