Margaret Mary Lockwood was born on September 15, 1916, in Karachi, British India, into the family of an English railway company administrator in British India. When Margaret was three years old, the Lockwoods returned to the United Kingdom. In England, Margaret received her education at a prestigious girls' school and then began her career as a theater actress.

Rise to Fame

Margaret's talent was noticed and appreciated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where she was offered her first contracts. In the second half of the 1930s, Margaret Lockwood began her journey in the film industry. She gained fame for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Lady Vanishes," a spy thriller with elements of his signature humor (1938). Margaret Lockwood also appeared in films such as "Cinderella and the Rose," "Night Train to Munich," and "They Came to a City."
