Hedwig Dohm
Early Life and EducationHedwig Dohm was born in Berlin and spent her childhood in Zurich. She attended school there before pursuing higher education in Dusseldorf and Paris. Later, she studied in Berlin and Munich, where she became part of the circle surrounding philosopher Georg Simmel. Simmel dedicated his book "Religion" (1906) to her, and she also had a close relationship with Martin Buber.
Literary Career
In 1901, Dohm published her first book of poetry, "Mein Land." From 1907 onward, she contributed essays to the Frankfurter Zeitung. Her writings often explored the role of women in society.
Exile and Later Works
After the Nazi Party came to power, Dohm settled in Switzerland. Among her significant works during this period were "Das Wesen der modernen deutschen Lyrik" (1910), an analysis of modern German poetry, and "Frauen der Romantik" (1920), which examined women during the Romantic era. Her writings continued to explore the complexities of gender, culture, and social issues.
