Early Life and Education
Maria Knyazeva was born into a musical family in Russia. She studied voice at the Moscow Conservatory under the tutelage of Ernst Taljabue and later Elizaveta Lavrovskaya.
Opera Career at the Bolshoi
In the 1890s, Maria joined the Bolshoi Theater, where she made her debut in various operatic productions. She quickly rose to fame for her soprano voice and stage presence.
Mariinsky Theater Debut
In 1896, Maria became a soloist with the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. She performed leading roles in renowned operas such as "Snow Maiden" by Rimsky-Korsakov and "Hansel and Gretel" by Humperdinck. She also participated in the first Russian performance of Haydn's oratorio "The Creation".
Marriage and Health Challenges
In 1901, Maria married violinist Prince Georgy Dulov. Due to her husband's health issues, they moved to Moscow. She continued to perform in камерные концертах (chamber concerts) and taught voice until 1917.
Retirement and Legacy
As she aged, Maria retired from public performance but remained active in the music community. She raised her daughter, Vera Dulova, who became an accomplished harpist. Maria Knyazeva's contributions to Russian opera and her dedication to nurturing new talent left a lasting impact on the world of music.
