Maria Viktoria Mena, a pop singer, found solace in singing and songwriting to distract herself from sadness and pain. While not all stories from her diary became songs, her song "My Lullaby" became one that reflected her feelings after her parents' divorce.
Early Life
Maria Viktoria Mena was born on February 19, 1986, in Norway. Her mother was a scriptwriter, while her father, Charles, was a playwright. Maria and her brother, Tony, were named after characters from Leonard Bernstein's book "West Side Story". Her father played in several musical ensembles. When Maria was 9 years old, her parents divorced, and at the age of 13, she moved to live with her father.
Music Career
Maria sang and wrote songs as a way to distract herself from her sorrow and pain. While not all stories from her diary became songs, her song "My Lullaby" became one that reflected her feelings after her parents' divorce. Maria recorded the song with her father's help and sent it to several recording companies. This led to a contract with Sony Music.
In 2002, her debut single "Fragile (Free)" was released in Norway. The song "My Lullaby" followed as her second release and reached 5th place on the Norwegian Singles Chart. The young performer quickly gained fans. Following this success, Maria released her debut album "Another Phase" in Norway. On July 20, 2004, Mena appeared on David Letterman's show with her first international album, "White Turns Blue".
