Mariana Duque-Marino: Colombian Tennis Star
Early Life and FamilyMariana Duque-Marino, born in Bogotá, Colombia, is the daughter of José Guillermo Duque and Silvia Marino. She has two sisters, Silvia and Catalina, and a brother, José Guillermo.
Tennis Career
Duque-Marino began her professional tennis career in 2004. She reached the final of the French Open junior singles event in 2007, becoming the first Colombian to achieve this feat. In 2008, she won her first WTA tournament title at the Bogotá Challenger, becoming the first Colombian woman to win a WTA title in the Open Era. She has since won a total of two WTA titles, one in singles and one in doubles.
At the 2007 Pan American Games, Duque-Marino won two silver medals, one in singles and one in mixed doubles. She has also competed in two Olympic Games, representing Colombia in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
Playing Style and Inspirations
Duque-Marino is known for her aggressive style of play, particularly her powerful forehand. Her preferred surface is clay. She cites Steffi Graf as her tennis idol.
Personal Life
Duque-Marino is fluent in both Spanish and English. She is married to Colombian professional cyclist Daniel Martínez.
