Mariasela Alvarez, a Dominican model, television presenter, and architect, is best known for winning the Miss World 1982 pageant. She was the first Dominican to achieve such a prestigious title, and her victory made her immensely popular in her home country. For eight consecutive years, Alvarez hosted the show called "Esta Noche Mariasela."

Born on January 31, 1960, in Santo Domingo, Alvarez received the Miss World crown on November 18, 1982, at the Albert Hall in London. After fulfilling her Miss World duties and traveling the world, she returned to the Dominican Republic. Alvarez successfully completed her studies in architecture at a local university and utilized her acquired skills to design several significant buildings in the country.

Among her notable architectural projects is the creation of the Torre Cristal, one of the main landmarks in Santo Domingo. In 1991, Alvarez ventured into television and hosted a weekly talk show called "Con los Ojos Abiertos." Her co-host happened to be the Miss Dominican Republic 1980.

In 1996, Alvarez established her television company, Maralva S.A., and one of its outstanding productions was the two-hour weekly show "Esta Noche Mariasela." The show received the prestigious Casandra Award four times in the category of "Best Special Television Show."

In 2004, Alvarez and her husband, Alberto del Pino, a renowned hotel industry businessman, relocated to Spain. They expanded the "Esta Noche Mariasela" program to include a new show called "Esta Tarde Mariasela." The couple has four children together.

In addition to her successful career in the entertainment industry, Mariasela Alvarez is actively involved in charitable work. She leads the Eva Lebrón de Álvarez Foundation, which focuses on various philanthropic efforts. Another project close to Alvarez's heart is the Casa Rosada of Santo Domingo, which provides assistance to orphans and children infected with HIV.
