Ann Curtis Cuneo

Ann Curtis Cuneo was an American swimmer who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. She won a gold medal in the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay, setting a new Olympic record.

Early Life and Swimming Career

Cuneo began swimming at the age of five. She quickly rose through the ranks and in 1948, she won the US national championship in the 100-yard freestyle. That same year, she represented the United States at the London Olympics.

Olympic Success

In London, Cuneo swam the lead leg of the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay. The US team went on to win the gold medal, breaking the previous Olympic record with a time of 4:29.2. Cuneo also placed fourth in the individual 100-meter freestyle event.

Post-Swimming Career

After her swimming career, Cuneo worked for the United States Olympic Committee and later served as Executive Secretary at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Upon returning to her hometown of Norwalk, she became the Public Relations Director for the local hospital.
