Mary McLachlan Biography
Mary McLachlan, a Scottish opera singer (soprano), is one of the leading soprano opera singers in the world. She gained fame on the international opera stage portraying Susanna in "Le nozze di Figaro" (The Marriage of Figaro) at the Salzburg Festival, Geneva, Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Royal Opera House in London. She has also successfully performed as Zerlina in the comedic opera "Don Giovanni," Ili in "Idomeneo," and Donna Elvira at the Glyndebourne Festival. McLachlan is a regular performer in Hamburg, Berlin, and Munich.

Early Life and Education
Mary McLachlan was born on November 2, 1954, in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. She studied in Glasgow and at the London Opera Centre.

Opera Career
McLachlan made her opera debut portraying Susanna in "Le nozze di Figaro." After working with the Scottish Opera and the Welsh National Opera, she joined the English National Opera in 1978 and later the Royal Opera House in London in 1980. Throughout her career, she has been a special guest performer at the Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Paris Opéra, Bavarian State Opera, and more. McLachlan has creatively interpreted several classic opera roles, such as Gilda in "Rigoletto," directed by Jonathan Miller for the English National Opera. Her performances as Micaëla in "Carmen" at the Glyndebourne Festival and Covent Garden, Violetta in "La traviata," and Marzelline in "Fidelio" have also received great acclaim. Recordings of her performances in "Rigoletto," "La traviata," and "Carmen" are available on video.
Collaborations and Recordings
McLachlan has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Bernstein, Haitink, and Sinopoli, performing in concerts. Some of her best roles have been recorded, including Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" conducted by Sir Neville Marriner for Philips and the role of Despina in "Così fan tutte" conducted by James Levine for Deutsche Grammophon. With an interest in German song, McLachlan released her debut CD featuring Schubert's songs accompanied by Graham Johnson on the Hyperion label. She later released her second album, again accompanied by Johnson, this time featuring Strauss's songs.
Personal Life
McLachlan is married to an artist and resides in southern England. The couple has two sons and a dog.
