Mario Genta: Italian Football Legend and World Champion

Born on October 1, 1912, in Tortona, Italy, Mario Genta began his footballing journey at Juventus. He made his debut for the club on June 18, 1933, in a match against Genoa, which Juventus unfortunately lost 2-3. The following season, Genta struggled to secure a regular place in the team.

Rise to Prominence with Pavia and Genoa

In 1934, Genta moved to Serie B club Pavia. He spent one season there before joining Genoa in 1935. At Genoa, Genta established himself as a key player, making 222 appearances in the Italian championship and scoring seven goals before his departure in 1946.

World Cup Triumph

Despite not having played for Italy at the time, Genta was included in Vittorio Pozzo's squad for the 1938 FIFA World Cup. Though he did not play a single minute, he became a World Champion alongside his teammates.

International Career

Genta made his debut for the Italian national team on March 26, 1939, in a 3-2 victory over Germany in Florence. His second and final international appearance came in Berlin on November 26 of the same year, in a 5-2 defeat to Germany.

Later Career and Retirement

After leaving Genoa, Genta joined Serie B club Prato. In 1948, Prato was relegated to Serie C, but the following year, Genta helped them regain Serie B status. He retired from football in 1950.
