Biography of Marius Stravinsky

Marius Stravinsky is a British conductor, known for his exceptional talent and skill. He was born into a family of pianists, Povilas Stravinsky and Eleonora Nakipbekova. Stravinsky's passion for music began at a young age, and he pursued his musical education with great dedication.

Education and Training

From 1985 to 1989, Stravinsky studied at the Central Music School in Moscow, specializing in violin. He then continued his studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London from 1989 to 1991. Stravinsky's thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at Eton College from 1992 to 1997. He then attended the Royal College of Music in 1997-1998 and the Royal Academy of Music from 1998 to 2002.

During his time at the Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra from 2002 to 2004, under the guidance of Vladimir Ponkin, Stravinsky gained valuable experience and honed his conducting skills.

Career and Achievements

Stravinsky's career took off when he made his operatic debut as a conductor for the "Helikon-Opera" orchestra in their productions of "Lulu" and "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District," which won the prestigious "Golden Mask" award. Stravinsky also performed with the orchestra at the "Diaghilev" festival in the Netherlands.

Throughout his career, Stravinsky has conducted numerous opera productions, including Bizet's "Carmen," Poulenc's "Dialogues of the Carmelites," Prokofiev's "The Story of a Real Man," Rimsky-Korsakov's "Kashchei the Immortal," Giordano's "Siberia," and his own composition "Mavra." He has worked with esteemed orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Lithuania, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Lithuania, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus, and the St. Petersburg Camerata Orchestra.

In 2006, Stravinsky became a candidate for the position of artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra of the Karelian Philharmonic, chosen from 30 applicants after a conflict between the musicians and the orchestra's long-standing conductor, Oleg Soldatov. He officially assumed his role as the chief conductor on September 1, 2007. Under his leadership, the Karelian Philharmonic Orchestra has made groundbreaking recordings, including the premiere recordings of Brull's violin concerto and symphony, Jadasohn's symphony, and Pabst's piano concerto, all released under the Cameo Classics label. Stravinsky has also expanded the orchestra's repertoire by introducing works by Thomas Blower, Dorothy Howell, and Holbrooke.

Marius Stravinsky's contribution to the world of classical music is significant, and his talent as a conductor continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
