Early Life and EducationBorn in Germany, the organist and conductor studied church music in Trier and Saarbrücken. To enhance his skills, he sought mentorship from renowned figures such as Sergiu Celibidache, Günter Wand, Eugen Jochum, and Ludwig Dürr.

From 1971 to 2009, he held the prestigious position of titular organist at the renowned Speyer Cathedral. In 1990, he also became the cathedral's music director. As an organist, he is widely recognized as an expert in the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

In addition to his organ performances, he directed various choral and chamber ensembles in Saarland. From 1991 to 1993, he served as the artistic director of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.
