Mark Agatov, a Renowned Writer and Journalist

Mark Agatov is a celebrated Russian writer, journalist, human rights activist, and member of the Union of Writers of Crimea (1995). He has authored 14 books and is the chairman of the Yevpatoria City Organization of the Crimean Karaites cultural and educational society "Qırımçahlar" (2003). Agatov has also served as chairman of the Crimean charitable organization "Society for Rescue of Children and Teenagers from Narcotics."

Early Career and Literary Success

In 1989, Agatov's debut novel, "In the Web of Death," was published in Moscow. It was reissued in Yerevan in 1990. Based on this novel, the feature film "Game for Millions" was released in 1991 by Gorky Film Studio.

Journalistic Investigations and Activism

Since 1994, Agatov has worked as a special correspondent for the Russian newspaper "Kommersant." His investigative journalism has focused on exposing "contract" killings in Crimea and corruption in law enforcement. In his article "Assa-2: Post-Soviet Power," published in "Kommersant," Agatov became the first journalist in Crimea to publicly name members of the organized crime group "Salem" and high-ranking officials implicated in their activities.

Agatov's persistent reporting led to extensive investigations into the criminal activities of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Colonel Yevgeny Suprunyuk. His subsequent books, "Journalist-Killer" and "Speaker-Killer," detailed Suprunyuk's alleged involvement in "contract" killings and his subsequent disappearance.

Continued Investigations and Literary Output

Agatov is currently leading a nationwide campaign to apprehend Suprunyuk, offering a 10,000 hryvnia reward. Throughout the 1990s, he published several newspapers and a literary magazine, "Detectives." He continues to investigate the illegal activities of high-ranking Crimean officials.

In 2003, Agatov released "Premier Kunitsyn and His Team," exposing the misconduct of Crimean officials. His most recent book, "The Crimean Premier and the Devil's Entourage," focuses on the previous parliamentary elections in Crimea. He is currently writing "Private Fedetov Returns to Work," based on interviews with hitmen and members of organized crime groups.

Recognition and Honors

In 2001, Agatov was nominated for the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Prize for his series of books on organized crime. In 2003, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the literary and educational magazine "Krymchaki" by the board of "Qırımçahlar."
