Current Role
Mark Phillips is the Prime Minister of Guyana, serving since August 2, 2020. He is also the First Vice President and the constitutional successor to the President of Guyana in the event of an unforeseen vacancy.
Military Career
Prior to his political career, Phillips was a military officer. In 2013, he became the Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, a position he held until 2016.
Education
Phillips holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Management from the University of Guyana and a Master's degree in Public Sector Management from the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra. He also graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in September 1981.
Political Affiliation
Phillips ran alongside Irfaan Ali on the People's Progressive Party of Guyana ticket in the 2020 general election.
