Mark Burnett: A Reality TV Visionary

Early Life and Military Service

Mark Burnett was born on July 17, 1960, in London, England. He served in the Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland from 1978 to 1982 and also participated in the Falkland Islands campaign during that period.

Transition to Television

Upon leaving the military in 1982, Burnett moved to Los Angeles, where he initially worked a series of odd jobs, including as a nanny and a T-shirt vendor at a beach. He eventually landed in television, serving as a producer on the shows "Survivor" and "Eco-Challenge."

The "Survivor" Phenomenon

In June 2009, "Entertainment Weekly" declared "Survivor" the most successful reality competition show of all time. It also became the highest-rated summer show since "Sonny and Cher."

In 2008, Burnett produced shows such as "Amne$ia," "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad," and "Jingles." He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including 51 Emmy nominations, the "Rose d'Or Frapa Format Award," "Frapa," and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (July 8, 2009).

Burnett is currently working on a new reality series starring "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge.
