Biography of Mark Eisen
Mark Eisen is an American designer originally from Cape Town, South Africa. He relocated to the United States at the age of 19 and eventually settled in New York. His career as a designer began in 1988.
Early Success
Eisen gained recognition with the launch of his first clothing collection, titled "Couture Denim". The collection was simultaneously available at the renowned New York department stores, Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman, and was met with unprecedented success. Eisen's designs became available in the United States, Italy, Japan, and Hong Kong.
Continued Success and International Recognition
Eisen continued to work on his eponymous luxury fashion brand, which was showcased in twelve consecutive fashion shows during New York Fashion Week. For the past twenty years, his collections have been successfully sold in over 800 stores across 18 countries. His designs have been featured in various magazines and newspapers, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Wallpaper, The New York Times, and Newsweek.
Unique Design Aesthetic
Known for his minimalism and modern aesthetics, Eisen distinguishes himself from other designers with his luxurious, sexy, and refined clothing and footwear collections, as well as his love for color. His unique ability to convey sensuality through a wide range of materials led him to create a special design for the one-of-a-kind "Chevrolet Camaro" for General Motors. This redesigned car, named the "Eisen Edition," was sold for $220,000.
Notable Collaborations and Influence
Eisen left his mark in the international advertising campaign "Absolut Eisen" for the renowned vodka brand, Absolut. He also participated in developing clothing collections for both men and women for the brand Harley Davidson. Approximately 600 Harley Davidson dealers worldwide sold his biker clothing for three years. Eisen also added his designs to the wardrobes of The Rolling Stones during their 1997 tour, Pete Townsend of The Who, and Faith Hill for her performance at the closing ceremony of the 1996 Olympics.
Passion for Glass and Recent Endeavors
Throughout his career, Eisen has crossed time zones and continents, leading to a transformation in the context of cross-cultural interaction. This incomparable experience helped the designer find new ways to express his inspiration and developed a great love for glass. During one of his journeys, Mark visited the "Little Venice" island of Murano, Italy, where he was inspired by centuries-old traditions and glass blowing and shaping techniques, as well as various other art forms.
Eisen's design universe is a blend of art, timeless style, technical progress, nature, and beauty. His first glass collections, which integrate all these elements, were released in 2012. Recently, Eisen purchased a wine farm owned by French Huguenots in Franschhoek, Cape Winelands in South Africa. He currently divides his time between New York and South Africa with his wife, Karen, and their two children.
