Biography of Mark Hoppus
Mark Hoppus is an American pop-punk musician and producer. He is one of the founders of the pop-punk band "Blink-182" and the pop-punk alternative band "+44". Hoppus plays bass guitar and performs vocals. He has also produced bands such as "Idiot Pilot", "New Found Glory", "The Matches", and "Motion City Soundtrack".
Early Life and Career
Mark Hoppus was born on March 15, 1972 in Ridgecrest, California. He attended Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California. Hoppus' father, Tex, was an engineer specializing in the development of advanced weaponry, which led to constant moves not only within states but also around the world. His parents divorced when he was 14, and he stayed with his father in Washington, D.C. It was during this time that Hoppus became interested in music. His father bought him a bass guitar and amplifier as a reward for helping paint the garage. Hoppus never took music lessons and taught himself to play. He honed his skills by playing with bands such as "The Descendents", "The Cure", and "Bad Religion", which greatly influenced the future creativity of "Blink-182".
In 1988, Hoppus played and sang in the band "Pier 69". He also worked with "The Attic Children" during this time while living in Washington, D.C. He later moved to San Diego and enrolled in a local community college. In August 1992, Hoppus met Tom DeLonge through his sister's friend, which led to his inclusion in the band "Blink-182". Over time, the band gained popularity, touring extensively and releasing multiple albums. Songs like "All the Small Things" and "I Miss You" became hits and topped the charts. In 2005, the band took a hiatus, but Hoppus wanted to continue writing music, leading to the formation of his new band, "+44". In 2006, they released their first album, "When Your Heart Stops Beating". Recently, the band signed a contract with "Interscope Records" and is currently working on their second album.
When asked about a reunion of "Blink-182", Hoppus usually responds, "I don't know. Ten years ago, I couldn't have imagined being where I am today. And right now, I don't know what will happen in ten years." On February 8, 2008, "Blink-182" won a Grammy. In 2000, Hoppus married Skye Everly, whom he met during a casting for one of the band's music videos. They have a son named Jack, born on September 5, 2002. The family currently resides in Los Angeles.
