Early Career and Breakthrough
Mark King turned professional in the world of snooker in 1991. Despite a promising start, it took until 1997 for him to achieve significant success. That year, he reached the Welsh Open final, where he was defeated by the legendary Stephen Hendry. Nonetheless, the performance propelled him into the top 20 of the rankings.
Top-16 Breakthrough and Consistent Performance
In the following season, King managed to maintain his position in the top 16, despite a disastrous performance against John Higgins. His consistent play earned him a place in the elite group of snooker players.
Career High and Slight Dip
King reached a career high of 11th place in the world rankings during the 1998/99 season. However, a slight dip in form followed in 2003.
Resurgence and Return to Top-16
King's career took a turn for the better in the 2005/06 season. He made it to the semi-finals of the UK Championship and defeated the legendary Ronnie O'Sullivan in the same season. Despite not reaching the top 16, King continued to show promise.
Persistent High Performance
In the 2006 British Championship, King achieved his highest break of 146, demonstrating his skill and dedication. In the 2007/08 season, he remained consistent, reaching the last 16 of the World Championship and securing his return to the top 16 rankings.
Personal Life and Other Interests
Outside of snooker, King is an avid football fan and enjoys boxing. He famously challenged former snooker player Quinten Hann to a match following Hann's disrespectful behavior towards Andy Hicks. King is also a devoted family man with three children: Mylee, Freddy, and a newborn daughter born in February 2010.
