Leonard Rosenblum, known professionally as Mark Lenard, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 18, 1924, to Abraham and Bessie Rosenson, Jewish immigrants from Russia. After graduating from high school, Lenard enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and underwent training as a paratrooper. However, he never saw combat and was discharged in 1946. Pursuing higher education, Lenard earned a degree from the University of Michigan.

Acting Career

Mark Lenard's acting resume is diverse, spanning film, television, and theater. He rose to fame as Sarek, the father of Spock, in the original "Star Trek" series (1966-1969), its animated counterpart (1973-1975), and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994). Lenard's portrayal of Sarek broke new ground, as he became one of the first actors to reprise the same character in multiple television series. Beyond "Star Trek," Lenard played a Romulan and a Klingon in the original series and later appeared in the feature films "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" (1984), "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" (1986), and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (1991).
