Early Life and Education
Mark Normand was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he attended De La Salle High School. He enrolled at the University of New Orleans but took a year off to study at the New York Film Academy, although he eventually dropped out. In a 2023 interview on the Neil Brennan podcast, Normand revealed that, before eventually finishing at Southeastern Louisiana University, he also attended Louisiana State University and Baton Rouge Community College.
Career
Stand-up ComedyNormand began performing stand-up in 2006 at Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar in New Orleans. He regularly tours comedy clubs and colleges nationwide, and has performed at numerous festivals, including the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Seattle International Comedy Competition, Boston Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, where he was featured as a New Face in 2013.
Television and Film
Normand's Comedy Central half-hour special, "The Half Hour," was released in 2014. He also released an album on Comedy Central Records that year, titled "Still Got It," which was recorded at Comedy on State in Madison, Wisconsin. His hour-long Comedy Central special, "Don't Be Yourself," premiered in 2017. He has made six appearances on "Conan," "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," "The Late Late Show with James Corden," TruTv's "Best Week Ever," MTV's "The Last Comic Standing," and @midnight. Normand has had acting roles in "Inside Amy Schumer" and "Horace and Pete."
Recognition
In 2013, Normand won Caroline's on Broadway's "March Madness" competition, defeating 63 other comedians. He was named "Best Comedian of 2013" by The Village Voice. In 2012, he appeared on John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show on Comedy Central, and in 2011, he was selected as one of Comedy Central's "Comics to Watch" at the 2011 New York Comedy Festival. Normand has also been recognized as one of Esquire's "Best New Comics of 2012" and Time Out New York's "21 Most Important People in New York Comedy."
Personal Life
Normand resides in the West Village neighborhood of New York City. He has stated that he is an atheist. Normand married May Planert in November 2022.
