Accidental Entry into Acting

Pellegrino stumbled upon his acting career by chance. One day, he jokingly appeared in a commercial and caught the eye of the production manager, who recognized his potential as an actor. With the help of an agent, Pellegrino began auditioning for roles, initially unsure of what was expected of him. His agent provided him with a list of acting schools, and Pellegrino chose one that was affordable and conveniently located near his home. Little did he know, he had enrolled in one of the best acting schools on the West Coast.

In 1987, Pellegrino landed a small role in an episode of the series "L.A. Law" and played Frankenstein in the crime comedy "Fatal Beauty." During the early 90s, while attending auditions, Pellegrino worked as an insurance agent, raising funds for the California chapter of NARAL, a national association advocating for the repeal of laws prohibiting abortions. Due to his striking appearance as a tall, cold blond, Pellegrino often portrayed heartless henchmen to the main villains. This led to his memorable role in the Coen Brothers' cult comedy "The Big Lebowski," where he had the honor of dunking Jeff Bridges' character's head in a toilet.

One of Pellegrino's most significant roles was that of Rita's volatile ex-husband in the TV series "Dexter." The character faced problems with his ex-wife and her new paramour, who happened to be a serial killer seeking vigilante justice. Pellegrino admitted that he and Michael C. Hall, who portrayed Dexter, intentionally avoided each other on set, suspecting mutual dislike, which added an extra layer of realism to their characters' strained relationship. However, after the filming concluded, they became the best of friends.

Outside of acting, Pellegrino is a martial arts enthusiast, participating in kickboxing, professional Muay Thai, judo, karate, taekwondo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
