Biography of Mark Seymour
Australian musician and singer, Mark Seymour is best known as the frontman and songwriter of the rock band 'Hunters & Collectors'. Born in Benalla, Victoria, Seymour moved to Melbourne with his family in 1972. He grew up with two sisters, Hilary and Helen, and a brother, Nick, who later became the bassist for 'Crowded House'.
Hunters & Collectors
In 1981, Seymour founded the band 'Hunters & Collectors', with John Archer on bass guitar and Doug Falconer on drums. Seymour served as the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band gained popularity and success throughout the years.
Solo Career
In 1997, while still a member of 'Hunters & Collectors', Seymour released his debut solo album 'King Without a Clue'. The album received critical acclaim and earned him two nominations at the 'ARIA Awards' for 'Best Male Artist' and 'Best Debut Single' for the song 'Last Ditch Cabaret'. In 1998, 'Hunters & Collectors' officially disbanded, allowing Seymour to focus on his solo career.
Continued Success
Seymour continued to release solo albums and actively toured the country. He released a concert DVD/CD titled 'One Eyed Man' in 2001, followed by the albums 'Embedded' in 2004, 'Daytime & the Dark' in 2005, and 'Westgate' in 2007. Alongside recording new music, Seymour frequently performed acoustic shows during his tours.
Other Achievements
In 2008, Seymour published his memoir 'Thirteen Tonne Theory' through Penguin Books. The memoirs detail his experiences working with 'Hunters & Collectors' and his journey in the music industry. One of Seymour's most well-known compositions is the anthem 'Holy Grail', which has become synonymous with the Australian Football League (AFL) and is often featured in Network Ten's coverage of the sport. Seymour has also performed the song live at AFL finals matches.
Personal Life
Mark Seymour currently resides in Melbourne with his wife Jo and their two daughters, Eva and Hannah.
