Early Life and Military Service

Mark Thomas Valley was born on December 24, 1964, in Ogdensburg, New York. After graduating from high school, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and engineering in 1987.

Initial Acting Roles

Valley studied acting at the Etage School of the Arts in Berlin. His first role, a small one, was in John Schlesinger's 1993 drama "The Innocent." This was followed by roles in various projects, including biographical drama "George Wallace" (1997), comedy "Breast Men" (1997), romantic comedy "Some Girl" (1998), and action thriller "The Siege" (1998).

Mainstream Success

In 2000, Valley landed a lead role in the Western "Jericho." In the same year, he reunited with director Schlesinger for "The Next Best Thing," starring Madonna. He also appeared in the political comedy "Running Mates."

Subsequent years saw Valley starring in television series such as "The Lone Gunmen," "Pasadena," "Keen Eddie," and "Boston Legal," where he played Brad Chase.

Recent Projects and Personal Life

In 2007, Valley appeared in Bill Guttentag's comedy "Live!" and historical documentary "Nanking." In 2010, he took on the lead role of Christopher Chance, a bodyguard who acts as a "human target" for his clients, in the television series "Human Target."

Valley is married to actress Anna Torv, with whom he co-stars in the science fiction series "Fringe." The couple has one daughter, born in 2008.
