Marta Dodd: American Journalist and Soviet Spy

Marta Dodd was an American journalist and Soviet spy. She was born to Professor W. Dodd and spent three and a half years studying at the University of Chicago until 1930. In 1931-1933, she worked as an assistant literary editor at the "Chicago Tribune" newspaper. In March 1932, she married George B. Roberts, but they divorced in 1934. From 1933 to 1937, Marta lived in Germany with her father, who was appointed as the US ambassador there.

In a Soviet report from 1936, it was mentioned that Marta Dodd, the daughter of the American ambassador in Berlin, had been recruited by the 7th Department of the Main Directorate of State Security of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD). According to the report, she arrived in Moscow in March 1937 for official negotiations. In September 1938, she married Alfred K. Stern (1897-1986). In 1953, Marta moved to Mexico. In September 1957, she and her husband were convicted in absentia in the United States for espionage on behalf of the USSR.

In 1957, the couple emigrated to Prague, Czechoslovakia. From 1962 to 1968, they lived in Havana, Cuba, and then returned to Prague in 1968. Marta Dodd was also the author of several books, including "Through Embassy's Eyes" (1939).
