Martha Scott was an American actress of both theater and film. She was widely popular in the mid-20th century and received numerous awards for her performances.

Early Life and Career
Martha Scott was born on September 22, 1912, in the United States, in the state of Missouri, to engineer Walter Scott and his wife. Her mother was a distant cousin of one of the US presidents, William McKinley. From an early age, Martha showed an interest in the arts, but she was only able to pursue acting professionally after graduating from a prestigious educational institution.

In 1933, Martha began her acting career by participating in a performance of a Shakespeare play at a fair in Chicago. Following this, the aspiring actress moved to New York to perform on Broadway. Her film debut came in 1940, in the movie "Our Town." She was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, which marked the peak of her success.
Film and Later Career
Martha Scott went on to star in numerous films, including "The Howards of Virginia," "Cheers for Miss Bishop," "One Foot in Heaven," "The Desperate Hours," "The Ten Commandments," "Ben-Hur," "Airport 1975," and "The Turning Point." However, she was never able to achieve the same level of recognition as she did with her early success.
Martha Scott actively worked in the film industry from the 1940s until the early 1970s. Some of her later works included appearances in films such as "Paris 7000," "Longstreet," "Hooray for Harriet," "The Sandy Duncan Show," "The Mod Squad," "Charlotte's Web," and "Police Woman."
Personal Life and Legacy
In 1940, Martha Scott got married for the first time to radio producer and announcer Charlton Elsop. Unfortunately, their marriage was not strong and the couple eventually divorced. In 1946, Martha married the talented composer and jazz pianist Mel Powell.
Martha Scott's last theatrical performance took place in "12 Angry Men" at the Henry Fonda Theatre in California. In the 1970s, she delighted her fans a few more times with her acting skills.
Martha Scott received numerous awards throughout her career, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She passed away on May 28, 2003, and was buried next to her husband, Mel Powell, at the Masonic Cemetery.
