Martina Navratilova: The Greatest Tennis Player

Born in Prague, Martina Navratilova started playing tennis at a young age. Even then, her coaches noticed that she was left-handed, which made her a challenging opponent for her right-handed partners. Martina quickly achieved success, with victories following one after another. However, tennis was not given much attention in Czechoslovakia at that time. When she traveled to the United States for a tournament, Martina made the decision to stay there. In 1981, she obtained American citizenship. Interestingly, her fellow countryman and equally famous tennis player, Ivan Lendl, also later acquired an American passport. As a warm-up before the Athens Olympics, Navratilova will compete at the Kremlin Cup in the doubles category. Her partner will be Svetlana Kuznetsova, the daughter of the famous world track racer, Tsareva. This season, the Navratilova-Kuznetsova pair has achieved five victories in tournaments of various levels.

Martina Navratilova: A Tennis Legend Turned Politician?

Legendary Martina Navratilova, who has achieved 167 singles victories in various tournaments throughout her brilliant career (not including doubles and mixed), decided to retire from tennis after the 2004 Olympics in Athens and pursue a career in politics. When discussing her life "after tennis," the 46-year-old Navratilova did not rule out the possibility of running for governor in the state of Colorado, where she currently resides. "If Arnold Schwarzenegger can run for governor of California, who knows, maybe I have enough muscle for that too," she noted.
