Mary Callahan Erdoes: Leading Investment and Banking Executive
Early Life and EducationMary Callahan Erdoes was born on August 13, 1967, to Patrick and Patricia Callahan Jr. Her parents were partners at the investment banking firm Lazard Freres. Erdoes earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Georgetown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she met her future husband, Philip Erdoes. They reside in New York City with their three daughters.
Career Beginnings
Erdoes began her career at Stein Roe & Farnham. She has credited her maternal grandmother, Mary "Izzy" Henebry, with helping her secure the job as a college student. After that experience, she moved to Bankers Trust, where she worked in corporate finance.
Leadership at J.P. Morgan
Before joining J.P. Morgan's Asset Management division, Erdoes worked at the consulting firm Meredith, Martin & Kaye. In 1996, she joined J.P. Morgan's Asset Management and led operations for high-net-worth individuals and foundations. In March 2005, Erdoes was appointed CEO of J.P. Morgan Private Bank.
Erdoes became CEO of J.P. Morgan's Asset Management in 2019, overseeing $1.3 trillion in assets under management, making her the most powerful woman on Wall Street. She also manages J.P. Morgan Chase's strategic partnerships with Highbridge Capital Management and Gávea Investimentos.
Honors and Recognition
Erdoes is ranked 24th on Forbes' list of the Most Powerful Women in the World. In 2012, she was named one of Bloomberg Markets' 50 Most Influential People. She is also a member of the board of directors for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
