Early Life and Career

Mary Tyler Moore was born on December 29, 1936, in New York City, USA. She was the eldest of three children in a clerk's family. At the age of 17, after finishing school, Moore decided to pursue a career in dance and made her first television appearance in a "Hotpoint" advertisement, where she danced in an elf costume. The commercial was a success and earned Moore $6000 in the first month. However, when Moore became pregnant, she had to discontinue the advertising campaign. She then appeared on album covers and attended auditions for television shows, but with limited success. Her first regular role was as a telephone operator in the series "Private Detective," where only her legs and voice were shown.

Rise to Fame

In 1960, Moore appeared in episodes of several television series such as "Johnny Staccato," and in 1961, she made her film debut in movies like "77 Sunset Strip," "Bourbon Street Beat," and "Lock Up." That same year, she landed a role in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" after being recommended by producer D. Thomas, who had previously rejected her for another casting due to her appearance but remembered her. However, in its final week, when it was announced that it was the last episode, it became the most popular television show of the week.

Later Career and Personal Life

Following the success of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," Moore continued to appear in television series such as "Annie McGuire" and "Ellen." She also ventured into theater, including performances on Broadway, founded her own production company, and appeared in numerous films, including "Change of Habit" alongside Elvis Presley. She authored two memoirs and actively engaged in philanthropy.

In terms of her personal life, Moore married R. Meeker, a neighbor, at the age of 18 in 1955, and they had one child, Richard, who tragically died in an accident in 1980. They divorced in 1961. In 1962, Moore married G. Tinker, with whom she co-created "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," but they separated in 1981. In 1983, Moore married Robert Levine, and they remain together to this day.
