Birth and Early Life

Masazo Nonaka was born in Kamitoshibeppu, Ashoro, Hokkaido, Japan, on July 25, 1905. He was the eldest son of Onsen Nonaka and had two brothers and three sisters, all of whom are now deceased.

Records and Recognition

Oldest Man in Hokkaido Prefecture (2016)

On April 3, 2016, Nonaka became the oldest living man in Hokkaido Prefecture upon the death of Teru Hatakeyama.

Oldest Man in Japan (2016)

Following the passing of Masamitsu Yoshida on October 29, 2016, Nonaka became the oldest man in Japan.

Oldest Living Verified Man (2018)

After the death of Israel Kristal on August 11, 2017, Nonaka was recognized as the oldest verified living man by the Gerontology Research Group. However, Francisco Nuñez Oliveira was later verified to be six months older than Nonaka.

Regaining the Record (2018)

Nonaka regained the title of oldest living verified man after Francisco Nuñez Oliveira's death on January 29, 2018.

Later Years and Legacy

In his later years, Nonaka enjoyed reading newspapers, watching sumo matches and opera, and indulging in sweets. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2019, at the age of 113 years and 180 days.
