Matthias Lauda is an Austrian racing driver, born to three-time Formula-1 champion Niki Lauda and Marlene. He also has a brother, Lucas, who serves as his manager.
Early Career
Unlike most drivers who start their careers in karting, Lauda made his debut in 2002 in Formula Nissan 2000. He then competed in two races in the German Formula VW and one race in the Spanish Formula 3. In 2003, he moved to the World Series Light, racing for the Vergani team, before transitioning to Euroseries 3000 in 2004. Later that year, he joined Formula 3000, completing the season with the Coloni Motorsport team.
GP2 and A1 Grand Prix
Lauda participated in the 2005 GP2 season, representing the Coloni team alongside former Formula-1 driver Gianmaria Bruni. While he was one of the few drivers in GP2 with a full season of experience in Formula 3000, he struggled to achieve significant success. Additionally, Lauda represented Team Austria in the 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix season.
Switch to Touring Car Racing
After not achieving notable success in open-wheel racing series, Lauda decided to shift his focus to touring car racing. Since 2006, he has been competing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series with Mercedes-Benz. Starting from 2008, he has also participated in the Speedcar Series.
Overall, Matthias Lauda has had a diverse racing career, starting from open-wheel racing and transitioning to touring car competition. Despite not reaching the same level of success as his father, he continues to showcase his racing skills in different series.
