Mats Hummels is a German footballer who is known for his exceptional skills as a defender. Born on December 16, 1988, in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, Hummels comes from a family with a strong football background. His father, Hermann Hummels, was a footballer who later became a coach, working with young players at Bayern Munich.

Early Career

Hummels began his football journey at the age of 6 when he started training in the youth teams of Bayern Munich. In 2006, he signed his first professional contract with Bayern Munich II, the club's second team. In 2007, he made his first appearance for the senior team, but soon after, he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, as his alma mater had enough central defenders at the time. In 2009, he officially signed with Borussia Dortmund, where he not only showcased his talent but also became an indispensable player for the club.

Success with Borussia Dortmund

Playing for Borussia Dortmund, Hummels quickly earned a reputation as an experienced defender who could read the opponent's actions and intercept attacks before they reached the penalty area. In the 2011 season, Hummels won his first Bundesliga title, and the following year, he helped Borussia Dortmund defend their title. He also won the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in the same year and the DFL-Supercup (German Super Cup) the following year. In 2013, Hummels reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund but lost to his former team, Bayern Munich. Hummels has represented the German national team since 2007. He initially played for the youth teams, starting with the Under-20 level and progressing to the Under-21 level. In 2010, he was finally called up to the senior national team. In 2012, Hummels became a regular starter for Germany at the European Championship, although the team only finished in third place. However, his most successful international tournament was the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Germany easily advanced from the group stage and confidently progressed through the knockout rounds. In the semifinals, they defeated the tournament favorites, Brazil, in a crushing victory. Hummels scored two goals during the tournament, against Portugal and France. In total, he has scored four goals for the German national team.
