Mats Valk: Speedcubing Legend
Mats Valk, born in Amstelveen, Netherlands, is a renowned speedcuber who holds two world records and numerous other achievements.
World Record Breaker
Valk first broke the single-solve world record for the Rubik's Cube in 2013 with a time of 5.55 seconds. He repeated this feat in 2016, setting a new record of 4.74 seconds. He also holds three world records in the 4x4x4 category.
European and World Champion
Valk won the European Rubik's Cube Championship in 2018 and finished as the runner-up in the 3x3x3 event at the World Rubik's Cube Championships in 2013 and 2015.
Algorithm Innovator
Valk developed the VLS (Valk Last Slot) 3x3x3 algorithms, which provide an efficient way to orient the last layer during the final stages of solving. He used one of these algorithms to set his 3x3x3 world record in 2016.
Collaborating with QiYi MoFangGe
Valk partnered with the Chinese brand QiYi MoFangGe to create his own Valk brand of speedcubes. He designs and approves the cube designs and specifications. The first cube under this brand, the Valk 3, was released in 2016 and has been used by many top-level speedcubers. Valk used a specialized, magnetized version of the Cubicle Valk 3 M to set his 3x3x3 world record.
Valk Cube Collection
The Valk collection includes a range of 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5 speedcubes. The latest addition to the series, the Valk 3 Elite M, features a novel dual-magnet adjustment system.
