Born in Santa Clara, California, Matt Barnes attended Del Campo High School in Sacramento, where he excelled in basketball and football. In his senior year, he averaged an impressive 30 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, 5 steals, and 3 assists while also playing as a wide receiver in football.

College Career

After graduating high school in 1998, Barnes enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In his final season, he averaged 13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.

NBA Draft and Early Career

Breakthrough with Golden State Warriors

In October 2006, Barnes signed with the Golden State Warriors. It was here that he found his niche, starting in 23 games in place of Mike Dunleavy Jr. He became a sharpshooter, hitting 106 three-pointers in 290 attempts and tying the team record by hitting seven threes in a single game.
