American Man Paralyzed from Accident Finds Strength to Stand on His Wedding Day

Matt Ficarra, a 31-year-old American man from Syracuse, New York, achieved a remarkable feat on his wedding day. Despite being paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for several years, Matt was determined to stand on his own two feet when he said his vows.

A Life-Changing Accident
In 2011, Matt broke his neck in a boating accident. Slipping on a wet edge of the boat, he fell into the water. Unable to move his arms or legs, Matt found himself in a dire situation. He remembers lying in the water, looking at the sky and the sun, and accepting the possibility that it might be the end. However, someone rescued him and pulled him ashore. After being hospitalized and undergoing surgery, doctors delivered the devastating news that he would never walk again. Matt's life would now revolve around a wheelchair.
Finding Joy in a New Life
Matt, however, is not one to easily be discouraged. He quickly adapted to his new reality and soon found happiness in his new life. One of the sources of his joy was Jordan, a woman he fell head over heels in love with. Despite initially rejecting his first two proposals, Jordan eventually said "yes" to Matt's persistent advances. They began their journey towards marriage, which involved meticulous planning and preparation.
A Wedding Day Worth Remembering
Unbeknownst to many, the most significant preparation for Matt was not included in the wedding budget or checklists. He was determined to stand on his own two feet on his wedding day. With the help of an exoskeleton, a special device with a frame that moves for the person, Matt underwent rigorous training. Finally, on the day of the wedding, to the sounds of gentle wedding music, Matt cautiously and slowly walked into the ceremony hall.
A Joyous Celebration
As friends and family watched with tears in their eyes, Matt, standing tall, exchanged vows with his radiant bride. After the ceremony, Matt returned to his wheelchair – his life would still continue in this way. However, nothing could dampen the spirits of the newlyweds as they embarked on their honeymoon in Jamaica. Matt and Jordan considered their wedding the most vibrant and joyous event in their lives, a testament to their resilience and love.
