Biography of Matthew Jurman

Matthew Jurman is an Australian footballer of Croatian descent who currently plays as a central defender for the club "Suwon Samsung Bluewings".

Early Life and Career

Jurman began playing football at the age of four in his hometown of Wollongong, Australia, at the academy of the Wollongong Wolves club. In 2006, he graduated from Westfields Sports High School. He later played for the club "Parramatta FC" and started his training at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in 2007. From 2008 to 2011, he played for "Sydney FC" in the National Youth League. After the 2008/09 season, he caught the attention of the first team coach, John Kosmina. During this time, he also played several matches in the AFC Champions League, scoring his first goal against "Kashima Antlers".

Club Career

Jurman made his debut in professional football on September 9, 2007, as a substitute in a match against "Perth Glory" in the A-League. Between 2008 and 2011, he played a total of 22 matches in the A-League for Sydney FC, as well as a few matches in the AFC Champions League in 2011. In the 2010/11 season, he was involved in an incident where he fell over a barrier after Juho Makela scored a winning goal against "Gold Coast United". There were concerns that he had broken his leg, but post-match examinations revealed only a few bruises.

On February 10, 2011, Jurman signed a two-year contract with the "Brisbane Roar" club, where he played under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, whom he had known since his time in the Australian youth national team. He made his debut for the club on October 8, 2011, against "Central Coast Mariners". At the end of the 2012/13 season, the club terminated Jurman's contract, along with those of Stef Nijland and James Meyer. On May 2, 2013, it was announced that Jurman would return to "Sydney FC", signing a one-year contract. He played his first match of the 2013/14 season against "Melbourne City", coming on as a substitute for Brett Emerton. Jurman scored his first goal in the A-League on March 8, 2014, in a match against "Western Sydney Wanderers" during the Sydney Derby.

International Career

Jurman represented the Australian youth national team from 2007 to 2009. He was a member of the team that won the AFC U-19 Championship in 2008. He also played for the Australian Olympic team, appearing in six matches.
