McNulty's first major acting role came in the soap opera "Emmerdale" (2001), as Dominic Skelton. However, it was his portrayal of Seth, a troubled ex-drug dealer in "Misfits" (2009-2013), that gained him widespread recognition. In "The Musketeers" (2014-2016), he played the cunning and ruthless Lucien Grimaud, a character initially introduced in Alexandre Dumas' novel as Athos' servant.
