Biography of Matthew Vaughn
Matthew Vaughn is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born in 1971 in Beverly Hills, California. Vaughn received his education at Stowe School in Buckingham, England. Instead of immediately attending university, he spent a year traveling the world and settled in Los Angeles, where he found work as an assistant director. Afterward, he returned to London and enrolled at University College London to study anthropology and ancient history. However, his passion for filmmaking never left him.
Early Career
Vaughn's first foray into the film industry as a producer came in 1996 with the crime drama "The Innocent Sleep," directed by Scott Michell. Two years later, he collaborated with his good friend Guy Ritchie on the critically acclaimed film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." This success paved the way for their subsequent projects, including the extravagant comedy "Snatch." in 2000 and the ill-fated "Swept Away" in 2002.
Personal Life
Vaughn married the stunning Claudia Schiffer in 2002, and they have two children together, Caspar Matthew De Vere Drummond and Clementine De Vere Drummond. Despite rumors of a falling out during the filming of "Swept Away," Vaughn and Ritchie resolved their differences and continued their collaboration. Vaughn even served as the best man at Ritchie and Madonna's wedding.
Directorial Projects
In 2004, Vaughn made his directorial debut with the crime drama "Layer Cake." Although criticized for its explicit content, the film was well-received and gained a dedicated audience. He continued his success with the fantasy film "Stardust" in 2007, which grossed over $100 million at the box office.
Recent Projects
Vaughn served as a producer for the thriller "Harry Brown" in 2009 and embarked on his next directorial project, "Kick-Ass" in 2010. He collaborated with renowned comic book author Mark Millar on the script and financed the film through his production company, Marv Films.
