Mattia De Sciglio: Journey of an Italian Defender

Early Life and Youth Career

Mattia De Sciglio, an Italian professional footballer, was born and raised in Milan, Italy. He began his football career with A.C. Milan's youth academy in 2002, initially training as a central defender.

AC Milan Debut and Rise

De Sciglio made his professional debut for AC Milan in 2011, coming on as a substitute in a UEFA Champions League match against FC Viktoria Plzeň. In the 2012/13 season, he established himself as a regular starter at left-back, making 33 appearances. Despite initial success, injuries and inconsistent performances limited his progress in subsequent seasons.

Captaincy and Milestone

On September 27, 2015, De Sciglio became AC Milan's captain for the first time, leading the team in the absence of Riccardo Montolivo and Ignazio Abate. He was also handed the captain's armband again for his 100th appearance for the club on March 6, 2016.

Move to Juventus

In July 2017, De Sciglio joined Juventus for a transfer fee of €12 million, potentially rising to €12.5 million with bonuses. He signed a five-year contract with the Italian giants.

International Career

De Sciglio represented Italy at youth levels, earning eight caps for the U-19 team and scoring one goal. He made his senior debut in 2013 and was part of the Italian squad for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup, and 2016 UEFA European Championship.
