Argentinian Football Legend: Mauricio Pochettino

Early Career

Mauricio Pochettino, a renowned Argentine footballer and coach, began his professional career with Newell's Old Boys. In 1994, he joined Espanyol, where he became a regular starter over six seasons and helped the club win the 1999/2000 Copa del Rey.

Playing for Argentina

Pochettino captained Argentina's Under-20 team at the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship. He made his senior debut in 1999 and went on to represent his country 20 times, including appearances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Managerial Career

Espanyol FC

In 2009, Pochettino returned to Espanyol as manager. Under his leadership, the team went from 18th place to a respectable 10th place finish. He guided Espanyol to a 10th place finish again the following season, avoiding relegation despite falling to the bottom of the table earlier in the campaign.

Southampton FC

In 2013, Pochettino took over as manager of Southampton. Under his guidance, the club experienced a remarkable resurgence, achieving their highest ever Premier League finishes and qualifying for European competition.

Tottenham Hotspur

In 2014, Pochettino moved to Tottenham Hotspur. While the team failed to win any trophies during his tenure, they significantly improved their performance, finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final. However, declining results led to his departure in 2019.

Paris Saint-Germain

In 2021, Pochettino made a triumphant return to Paris Saint-Germain, the club he had played for as a player. He quickly won the Trophée des Champions, his first major trophy as a manager. However, the team failed to win the Champions League or the Ligue 1 title, resulting in his departure in 2022.
